COMMUNITY MOON JAR #1

Wheel thrown stoneware moon jar with recycled community studio scraps applied to top exterior (14.5" x 12.5" x 12.5"), interior glazed in shiny black, exterior painted with layers of black underglaze and matte black.

In my series Community Vessels, I draw inspiration from the behavior of octopuses, particularly their creation of middens—intricate shelters made from shells and meal remnants. These structures, both functional and expressive, mirror their surroundings. Similarly, each vessel in this series is crafted from discarded greenware gathered from our community ceramics studio. By repurposing these fragments, I honor the collective stories and energy of the artists who shaped them. Like the octopus, which adapts seamlessly to its environment, these vessels embody the evolving, imperfect beauty of our shared creative space. I invite viewers to reflect on the deep connections between artistry, environment, and community.
